An overhaul of a dated property, this sizable double-storey side extension (to both sides) and single-storey rear extension brought the house back into a sleek, modern era.
One of the more challenging aspects of this project was retaining the existing structure while working within a fixed client budget. Carrying out excessive structural work would have significantly exceeded the budget, so careful consideration was given to the placement of walls and the relationship between rooms to ensure the design remained cost-effective.

The client is a music teacher who gives piano lessons from her home; therefore, one of the main goals was to create an open-plan studio and music room that was comfortable, light-filled, and usable throughout the day.
The client also required generous hosting space for visiting students, as well as alumni from within her industry.
Due to the proximity of the neighbouring property, the design was carefully considered to remain sympathetic. The right-hand side features a cat-slide roof to minimise overshadowing and reduce any sense of overbearing on the neighbour. Internally, the home is fully upgraded with underfloor heating, modern finishes, and a striking set of sliding doors opening to the rear garden.
This project remained within budget due to very close communication with the builders on site, supported by regular and relevant meetings. Overall, the client was extremely happy, as were her friends and family.

“Enjoying using all rooms and it was worth effort waiting to get things right as all came together with lovely people helping despite delivery delays from abroad! “
