Future Homes Standard 2025

The ‘Future Homes Standard’ is a planned set of mandatory standards by the British government that aims to reduce carbon emission and consumption in the UK, lower energy bills, and improve energy efficiency for all new build properties.

Key proposed features of this bill:

  • No more gas boilers, instead Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHPs) and wastewater heat recovery for central heating and hot water systems
  • Enhanced standards on window glazing, building materials, insulation and airtightness
  • Inclusion of solar panels, smart meters and lightning, and EV charges

Who will this affect?

This will effect all the players associated with the residential property. Homeowners, landlords, and residential development and construction industries.

When does this come into effect?

As of April 2025 this bill has yet to be passed in Parliament, this means we still do not know the specific contents of the legislation and what this means for the residential industry, or indeed when it will come into effect.
